  • Friday night Kumite training is an additional class, so it is an additional $5.00 extra ‘PER WEEK’.

“Do we need to get one of those ‘white’ uniforms?”

Short answer is YES!

However, as a beginner a Gi (the white uniform) is not necessary straight away, shorts and a t-shirt are fine. It pays to wait for a few weeks to see if your child really wants to continue learning Karate. We do encourage ALL new members to have a Gi before the end of their first term in readiness for their first grading. Buying a Gi can be the most stressful part of the whole deal, we recommend either www.zenjo.co.nz or trademe.

“What on earth is a GRADING?”

A Grading is an opportunity for members to progress through the grades on their journey towards achieving their Black Belts. Gradings are held at the end of each term and are strictly by invitation only.

Bay Karate Papamoa: The grading syllabus is set in accordance with the JKF Goju Kai NZ requirements, to view the different belts and what you need to know follow this link.

Can we stay and watch?

Well; regardless of how lovely parents are, we’ve found over the years that parents sitting in the background can be the single most distracting factor during class, especially for the younger members of our club. So we recommend that parents either drop off and relax whilst their kids are training or wait in the lobby. And don’t worry, you’ll see the benefits and progress at home and at the end of term gradings.
